Microsoft's British resellers are already well on course to benefit from the cloud reveolution having made the move to embrace the hosted application model a couple of years ago.
Clare Barclay, director of partner strategy and programmes at Microsoft, told MicroScope that in the light of the announcements and keynote from her CEO Steve Ballmer yesterday at the vendor's worldwide partner conference (WPC) the channel was being given the clearest indication yet that the future lay in the cloud.
"This is what partners come for they want to hear about the direction Microsoft is heading in and where the momentum is and to see where business is going," she said.
She added that Microsoft was "placing a bet on the cloud" and those resellers that had doubts about the technology should have those dispelled now.
"Resellers need to think about making the investment now. On-premise will continue to be significant but won't share the growth of online," she warned.
"The momentum we have seen in the last six months in cloud based services has really accelerated," she said.
Yesterday, Ballmer used his keynote at WPC to talk about the cloud and unveil its Azure platform which it is using in partnership with some other household names including Dell, HP, Fujitsu and eBay.
