Symantec opens up SME channel specialisation

Symantec has lowered the entry requirements for its small business specialisation to make it appeal to a wider number of resellers.

Those signing up for the specialisation get financial incentives and tools, including online deal registration, that are on offer for those that sell the vendor's portfolio of SME products.

The revenue thresholds that partners have to generate to be part of the programme have tumbled from $100,000 per year to just $10,000 making it a prospect that would be feasible for a larger number of resellers.

Glenn Woolaghan, Symantec's denior director of Small Business EMEA, said that it had made the decision to make it attractive to more channel partners and to increase revenues from the SME sector for both the vendor and resellers.

The vendor has been developing a channel programme based around specific product cataegories to encourage resellers to sell more of its products and changes in the global partner programme kick in from October although for a few months the existing scheme will run concurrently but eventually all partners will be moved to the revised system.

There will be around eight specialisations that are based around technology, for example data loss prevention, and for a reseller to gain platinum, gold or silver status they will need to have developed those focused skills.

Current specialisations alongside SME include Endpoint management, foundational enterprise security and IT compliance and data loss prevention with more coming later this year.
