Blue Coat launches network optimisation sales tool

Application delivery networking vendor Blue Coat is to launch a dealer-focused cloud-based reporting and analytical service that it hopes its partner community will use as a sales tool in both potential and current customer installations.

The Blue Coat Assessment Service will enable partners to conduct a thorough analysis of an enterprise network using the firm's PacketShaper appliance, revealing data on WAN and Internet connection usage within the client's network.

Blue Coat claims this will enable partners to root out the causes of poor application performance, such as bandwidth being tied-up by recreational use and social media apps, causes of peak bandwidth consumption and the amount of bulk application traffic that might benefit from WAN optimisation.

The firm said this would open up a more revealing level of detail where there had previously been a severe lack of knowledge.

"By offering the Assessment Service to prospective customers, VARs and consultants can quickly deliver a valuable report and reinforce their role as their customers' trusted networking experts," said Blue Coat senior director of visibility solutions, Steve House.

The service will be formally made available mid-August in conjunction with a try-before-you-buy programme on Blue Coat's PacketShaper range.
