The expectation might have been for the iPhone and the first sales of the iPad to have trickled through to impact the third quarter results for the three months ended 26 June, but Apple reported it also saw strong sales of its Mac computers.
The vendor delivered net income for Q3 of $3.25bn up from $1.83bn in the same period the year before and revenue also increased to $15.7bn.
Although 8.4m iPhones were sold in the quarter and 3.27 iPads were rung through the tills it was the 3.47m Macs that were snapped up that might raise a few eyebrows.
Steve Jobs, Apple CEO, was upbeat not just about the last few months but about the prospects for the year ahead: "iPad is off to a terrific start, more people are buying Macs than ever before, and we have amazing new products still to come this year."
