Sun Microsystems services senior vice president Joe Heel has jumped ship to Avaya to take up the role of president of global services, replacing Chris Formant who is taking over Avaya's public sector business.

The shift will free up ex-Nortel boss Joel Hackney, who had been running the government division, to focus on his role as senior vice president of global sales and marketing and president of field operations, which he took up in June.

CEO Kevin Kennedy said that applying Formant to the government business "affirmed" Avaya's commitment to the sector, which has grown considerably with the acquisition of Nortel.

He added: "Our services business is equally important and we believe Joes' extensive enterprise sales and services experience, as well as his proven ability to deliver business results will add significant value to Avaya and our customers."
