HP vet joins Datapoint in enterprise services push

Network and comms integrator Datapoint has scooped former Vistorm boss and ex-Hewlett-Packard UK services head Jim Kent as its new CEO, replacing Vim Vithaldas, who stepped down to pursue outside interests at the end of August.

Speaking to MicroScope, Kent revealed his topmost priority was to start work on developing a new services strategy for the firm.

"In the short-term I expect to be making some key moves around service definition by early 2010," he said. "We need to build strength in consulting and professional services, and will be investing in new talent as well."

Kent spent close to 20 years at HP before joining Compaq just 10 months before HP bought it; subsequently he helped led the merger of the HP and Compaq services business in the UK.

He then joined privately-held information assurance and security specialist Vistorm as chief executive in 2004 and was charged with building up its services business before its acquisition by EDS last year.

The Avaya partner also announced the appointment of former Azzurri CFO Richard Wingfield as its new financial head, replacing Paul Lewis.
