NetApp and Oracle settle long running patent battle

Simon Quicke
NetApp and Oracle have settled their legal battle over a patent disagreement that goes back more than ten years and buried the hatchet enough to talk of working more closely together.

The patent dispute was originally directed at Sun Microsystems, which has since been acquired by Oracle, and started in 2007 over a patent dispute that has now been settled confidentially.

The vendors both agreed to dismiss the legislation without prejudice ending the saga and Tom Georgens, president and CEO of NetApp issued a statement talking of greater collaboration with Oracle.

"Moving forward, we will continue to collaborate with Oracle to deliver solutions that help solutions that help our mutual customers gain greater flexibility and efficiency in their IT infrastructures," he said.
