Oracle has set its sights on taking a major slice of the cloud market after unveiling an all-in-one middleware appliance to provide users with a straightforward route to hosted applications.
The Exalogic Elastic Cloud combines both hardware and software to produce a cloud infrastructure and is one of the main announcements made by CEO Larry Ellison at the vendor's OpenWorld conference.
The solution is aimed at the enterprise market with the ability to support thousands of applications with the promise it can do so in mission critical environments.
"Oracle Exalogic Elastic Cloud is a complete system of servers, network, storage, VM, operating system and middleware, all engineered to work together," said Oracle CEO Larry Ellison.
The product is being pitched as an "integrated middleware machine" and Oracle is quoting a stack of benchmark results to underline its performance in demanding enterprise situations.
