Cable & Wireless Worldwide is to build WAN-based enterprise cloud computing solutions based on Cisco's UCS data centre platform.
The business-centric comms provider plans to launch the solution to the market before the end of the year, and says that the combination of dedicated virtualised environments with enterprise cloud computing will enable customers to realise significant cost and performance benefits.
The platform will be accessed through C&W's NGN.
"So far enterprises have been unable to take advantage of the agility [cloud computing] can provide," said C&W Worldwide business manager Tom Stockwell.
"This collaboration will help large organisations and multinational companies evolve and virtualise while addressing concerns around service levels, security, management and compliance," he added.
The tie-up forms an extension to C&W's already available data centre management and virtualised hosted services portfolio.
Cisco Europe director of data centre and virtualisation Wendy Mars said: "This relationship enabled enterprise customers to benefit from UCS technology and C&W's extensive experience and managing data centres and delivering managed hosting services."
