Birmingham targeted in piracy campaign by BSA

The West Midlands has become the latest battle ground in the Business Software Alliance's fight against piracy.

A strategy of targeting specific areas has been used in the past in both Glasgow and London with the BSA educating businesses but also highlighting some examples of those that have flouted the law.

Birmingham, the latest focus of the BSA, is responsible for 15% of all piracy reports received in the UK.
As part of the Compliance Check campaign 1,000 businesses will be contacted by the BSA and given 30 days to get their houses in order.

Julian Swan, director, compliance marketing EMEA at BSA, said that self-auditing would encourage Birmingham-based firms to review their software licenses.

"Although many businesses do the right thing when it comes to software management, others, either through ignorance, neglect or financial corner cutting, persist in using illegal software. This campaign sends a strong message that this will not be tolerated," he said.
