European firms fending off data fraudsters

Simon Quicke

European firms seem to have grasped the importance of data protection better than other territories with a healthy number fending off losses to fraud in the lasy year.

According to the annual Kroll Fraud Report Europe had the lowest cases of physical or information theft with 47% of businesses in the region reporting they lost no money to fraud.

The picture globally wasn't as rosy with theft of data overtaking physical theft for the first time and the fear of being a victim of a crime putting off some companies that were looking at expanding into countries seen as risky, including China and Africa.

The Kroll report warned European firms not to rest on their laurels and assume that the threat of fraud has diminished or headed elsewhere.

"Some signs suggest that Europeanbusinesses might fall victim to complacency. They are already less likely than average tohave adopted most anti-fraud strategies," stated the report.
