ShoreTel buys Agito to beef up mobile support

Alex Scroxton

Unified comms vendor ShoreTel is buying platform-agnostic enterprise mobility specialist Agito for $11.4m to bulk up its mobile support capabilities.

ShoreTel has long been a cheerleader for remote and mobile working, and said today that the acquisition would "put the full power of the deskphone in the user's pocket."

The acquisition adds enterprise call-control capabilities, voice over WLAN, presence and location to ShoreTel's mobile offering, among other things, and will enable it to add native support for smartphones and tablets from Apple, Nokia, RIM and Windows Mobile.

"Dependence on smartphones continues to skyrocket, but nmany workers struggle with poor coverage, inferior call quality, expensive roaming fees and limited feature sets," said interim ShoreTel boss Don Girskis.

"Agito technology free[s] users to use any network, leveraging the power of the deskphone, and taking advantage of industry-leading call quality and controls from their smartphone," he added.
