Microsoft boasts of strong sales on Windows 7 first birthday

Windows 7 is celebrating its first anniversary boasting of large numbers of licenses sold at a quicker pace than any of its other operating systems.

Microsoft has provided an update on the progress of Windows 7 highlighting the sale of 240m licenses and a large number of firms indicating they are planning to move to the latest OS.

Quoting Forrester Research numbers, the vendor said 89% of organisations are currently testing or deploying the software in the next two years.

There has also been strong take-up in the SME area with the number of desktops and laptops running the OS increasing by 500%, according to numbers from SpiceWorks, in just the last 10 months.
