Riverbed acquires as Q3 sales hit new record

Network optimisation vendor Riverbed has stormed to another record quarter and splashed out on wireless packet capture and analysis expert CACE Technologies to boost the traffic recording, analysis and inspection capabilities of its Cascade solution.

In a statement, CEO Jerry Kennelly said the deal meant that "Riverbed will be able to offer customers the tools they need to resolve the toughest performance issues and ensure the success of their network-driven businesses."

Riverbed also said it would keep CACE's open source Wireshark community active. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

For the three months to the end of September, San Francisco-based Riverbed booked total sales of $147.8m (£94.17m), up 17% sequentially and 45% year-on-year.

Net profit on a GAAP basis rose from $5.5m this time last year to $13.9m, reflecting growing market awareness of WAN optimisation as a strategic spending priority.

Said Kennelly: "Deployment sizes continued to grow as we expanded our presence in the enterprise.

"We executed well, with the strongest top line growth Riverbed has reported in more than two years, and bottom line growth outpaced the top line, resulting in a 28% non-GAAP operating margin," he added.

Riverbed has also approved a two-for-onestock split of its outstanding common stock, which will be effected next month in the form of a dividend.
