Extreme Networks has hired two former 3Com channel specialists to drive its own UK partner programme.

Steve Johnson, who joins as UK channel director, was formerly business development manager at 3Com/H3C, and also served as UK channel head between 2005 and 2008, before its acquisition by Hewlett-Packard.

Prior to 3Com he was responsible for the Compaq franchise at Computer 2000.

Meanwhile, Chris Elliott joins from Allied Telesis, where he headed up public sector accounts. Elliott also did time within 3Com's dealer organisation between 2002 and 2008.

The pair will take responsibility with increasing Extreme's UK roster, with a particular emphasis on growing the top-level platinum partners numbers.

Extreme UK and Ireland regional director Gary Newbold said: "We boast a large and loyal customer base as a direct result of the efforts of our partners. Our expanded team will work closely with these organisations to help them grow their business and increase our market share."
