Comstor slips Linksys kit into SMB line-up

Westcon-owned Cisco house Comstor has announced it is now handling the Linksys by Cisco Connected Office portfolio as part of its Cisco-SMB oriented product set.

Comstor resellers will now be able to buy the Connected Office Portfolio with no change to their account status in what European vice president and managing director John Pritchard said was a "natural extension to our existing portfolio for the SMB reseller."

"Our knowledge, support and value add services will help our customers make the most of these solutions," he added.

Earlier in the year when Cisco initially announced that it was incorporating the Linksys SMB programme into the Cisco Registered Partner Programme there was speculation over changes to the distribution programme with questions raised over whether or not Cisco would hand out Linksys distribution contracts to its existing line-up, or axe either of the Linksys-only specialists Gem and Northamber.

In October, Cisco Europe small business head Tunji Akintokun told MicroScope all of Linksys' European distribution partners had been inducted into the Cisco programme and added that over a third of Linksys SMB partners had bitten the bullet and joined Cisco's Registered Partner Programme.

"Our partners are clearer about the portfolio and now see more choice," he said.

In mid-October, Cisco very quietly announced that after five years of speculation the Linksys name was for the chop when it renamed the unit's remaining consumer-focused business the Cisco Consumer Business Group (CCBG). In spite of the new official moniker, CCBG's product portfolio will continue to be known as Linksys by Cisco for as long as it makes sense to maintain the brand name.
