Ingram Micro to launch cloud services in Europe next year

Simon Quicke
Ingram Micro is planning to introduce a cloud services operation recently set up in the US to Europe next year, acting as an aggregator and educator for resellers looking to get into hosted services.

The distributor launched Ingram Micro Cloud in the US last week providing an aggregator of services and information for its resellers around the technology.

Vincenzo Baggio, Ingram senior VP of vendor management and business development, said  it would be rolling out cloud activities across Europe next year with Jason Beal - who recently moved over from the US to become senior director, software and services, value division - handling the cloud activity.

Beal starts his role on 1 January reporting into Baggio and will be tasked with setting up a cloud programme on this side of the Atlantic.

Baggio said that it would use its experiences in the US and position itself as "an aggregator of solutions" but admitted that defining the role of distribution in a cloud world was still at an early stage.

"We consider this work in progress, a lot of activities are moving into the cloud," he said, adding that "a lot of aggregation work needs to be done because I can't see an end user using 15 different services. Adding value is fundamental in this play," he said.
