Networks First latest Cisco partner to trial apps

The app, dubbed First Find, was funded by company chairman Peter Titmus and is designed to supply information on networking, comms and security equipment covered by Networks First, drawing on the firm's database of around 750,000 SKUs.

It provides end of life and service data status, and information on list price and vendor support, among other things.

"We developed First Find to provide users with a fast, simple and free method to gather information. It doesn't require any specialist equipment [and] is vendor-agnostic," said Titmus.

"The idea was proposed by an employee who [was] frustrated by the time it took to research a customer's networking assets," he added.

He added that the scope of the app could eventually be widened to allow its use as a tool to register equipment, and by extension uncover counterfeit or unsupported gear.

This comes hot on the heels of the launch of a Cisco stock checker app by Azlan, which is currently being rolled out across EMEA with the objective of helping resellers enhance service levels and provide instant lead-time information to their customers.

Avaya distributor Scansource has also got in on the act, launching its own version of Apple's App Store providing off-the-shelf mobile data apps for resellers to supply as part of a mobility solution.

"We are setting up a product platform with the support of our vendors that allows developers to find a wider audience for their applications and resellers to provide complete mobility solutions," said Scansource European president Xavier Cartiaux.
