The debate might rage about when public clouds will take off but on he private front deploying the technology is becoming a priority for users.
According to data from Forrester 24% of those quizzed across Europe and the US placed developing private clouds as a priority and their ambitions are filtering through to spending decisions.
As firms gear up for the cloud the infrastructure has to improve with data centres. server infrastructure and spending on channel consultancy all increasing.
But the analyst house has warned that there continues to be under investment in some key areas including automation, self-service and tracking and reporting.
One of the key pieces of advice from the analyst house was for customers to turn to the channel to help plug the competency gaps.
"If you struggle to standardize and automate your virtualized infrastructure or are reluctant to
empower developers, then you may have to admit you just aren't ready to build or operate
a private cloud yourself," states its research into private clouds.
"If so, refocus your efforts on a service provider who can offer you a hosted private cloud solution. If you want to execute a private cloud, then you will need an integrator, consultancy, or both," it adds.
