Riverbed is expanding its reach beyond its traditional value added, niche distribution proposition with the signing of Avnet Technology Solutions in the UK.
The WAN optimisation vendor already works with Arrow, VADition and Zycko in the UK, and although there is no indication Riverbed is dissatisfied with this line-up, it is now bringing its 12-month old contract with Avnet in the States across the Pond.
"As broad as Avnet's business is, we provide probably the best opportunity for Riverbed to break new and emerging market areas," Avnet head of business strategy Bruce Hockin told MicroScope.
"They wanted scale and new opportunities in areas that they felt their existing distributors couldn't reach," he added.
James Hall, marketing director at Riverbed Diamond Partner Teneo, said: "We've seen Riverbed go from less of a niche point solution to becoming more embedded in network design. The scope of its product set is widening, so in terms of having a worldwide supply chain this makes sense."
"We are confident that Avnet's deep understanding of networking, security and storage and successful track record in supporting international enterprise channels will further enhance the Riverbed Partner Network in the UK," added Riverbed senior director of distribution channels, Tim Mackie.
Avnet will be aiming the Riverbed lines - including its Steelhead WAN appliance, Cascade network assessment and Whitewater cloud storage products - across a number of areas of partner specialisation, targeting mainly mobility, storage, networking and unified comms resellers.
It is also making plans to refresh and import some of the partner tools and programmes that it has developed with Riverbed in the US, according to Hockin.
