Hewlett-Packard has become the latest major vendor to put its muscle behind the cloud following the likes of Microsoft down the path of introducing specific products to underpin a push into hosted services.
Under the banner of the HP Hybrid Delivery solutions the vendor has number of tools that enable resellers to build and sell private and public clouds.
The vendor's CloudSystem is designed to be a straightforward way of moving to the cloud and at the top end of the market there are specific enterprise products that provide private cloud as a service using HP data centres at the back end.
There are various other components in the suite including service automation that delivers the security and compliance updates and an ability to map resources and demand to ensure smooth service delivery.
Ann Livermore, executive vice president at HP Enterprise Business, said that cloud was now a mainstream technology and it was the right point for customers to start making the transition to the latest technology.
At a reseller end of things recent research from ComputerLinks has indicated there are still a lot of resellers yet to dip their toes in the cloud waters.
Speaking to MicroScope about the need to move towards the cloud Piers Linney, joint CEO of Outsourcery, said that the security fears had been dispelled and the flexibility that could now be offered was something more companies wanted.
"A customer sooner or later will ask a reseller about the cloud and they need to have an answer otherwise facing losing that business," he said.
