Intel has been given the green light by the EU to complete the acquisition of McAfee on condition it gives rivals access to its technology.

The condition was stipulated by regulators concerned that the chip giant would block other security firms looking to make their products compatible with Intel's range.

The EU thumbs up follows a month after the US Federal Trade Commission also gave the $7.68bn deal the go ahead.

"The commitments submitted by Intel strike the right balance, as they preserve both competition and the beneficial effects of the merger," said EU Competition Commissioner Joaquin Almunia.
