Ahead of the annual UC Expo trade show in March, research conducted by the event's organisers has revealed that the number of potential communication methods available to business users is making it harder for firms to speak with a truly unified voice.
Out of 126 decision-makers pressed for their opinions, 50% had a UC solution in place but well over 80% complained it was not performing to its full potential.
The research highlighted a divide between business decision-makers and the IT department, with businesses focused more on getting a decent return on their investment, while IT departments wanted lower costs when it came to UC implementations.
"Companies are focusing on return to growth, so there is increasing demand across the board to drive business outcomes, and UC could help with this," said UC Expo director Mike England.
"However, the research suggests the UK businesses are still struggling to get to grips with the approach, and that the wealth of communication channels, especially social media related channels, is hindering rather than helping," he added.
