Xerox snaps up Canon's largest UK dealer

Simon Quicke

Xerox has put its hand in its pocket to fund an acquisition of Scottish-headquartered Concept Group to widen its route to SMEs.

The deal means that Xerox will be selling its range of office products and supplies through the Concept Group, which has six locations across the UK, with four in Scotland as well as London and Newcastle.

Concept, which has been trading since 1984, claims to be the largest Canon dealer in the UK in terms of spend and the second largest in Europe, with a portfolio including print management products.

The terms of the deal were undisclosed but Concept will keep its name and its founder and chairman Colin Paterson will continue to run the company, reporting directly to Douraid Zaghouani, president of indirect channels group at Xerox.

"Channel epxansion continues to be a key aspect of the Xerox strategy for Europe," said Zaghouani, "With Concept Group we significantly increase our presence across the UK."

Paterson said that Concept had set out an ambition to provide products and management to customers and it would be better placed to deliver that having been acquired by Xerox.

In a statement sent to MicroScope Xerox confirmed that Concept Group would continue to sell Canon products.

A Canon spokesperson said that they were aware of the deal:"We are aware of the announcement relating to Concept Group Ltd and Xerox. We remain committed to the continued development of our independent reseller networks as well as our clearly defined direct sales operation."
