Resellers have role to play helping users manage security

A burden of numerous security tools, various vendor contracts and a need to update systems to combat ongoing threats is causing major headaches for users.

According to research carried out by the Ponemon Institute on behalf of Check Point the complexity in security is a major headache for customers and something that they could look to the channel to help them cope with.

The main findings showed that more than a third said managing complex security environments was the biggest challenge they faced and the lack of understanding from their own staff was compounding the problem.

More than half, 53% of those quizzed, revealed that they thought their employees had little or no awareness about data protection or the company security policy.

Nick Lowe, head of Western Europe sales at Check Point, said that knowledge was vital if customers were to get a better handle on the security situation.

"To improve security in this day and age, organisations need to get a better understanding of their current environments and prioritise their short and long term initiatives," he said.

Anecdotal research has indicated that most firms have up to 24 different security products running, and it can be much more than that, and consolidation has already kicked in because of cost cutting and a need to reduce the management headache.
