NetScout buys BT spin-off Psytechnics

Voice and video service management outfit and BT spin-off Psytechnics has been bought by network management vendor NetScout Systems for an undisclosed sum as it ramps up its focus on the unified communications sector.

Ipswich-based Psytechnics specialises in software for enterprises and service providers that enhances the performance of IP voice, video and telepresence on enterprise and carrier networks.

Backed by former parent BT, it is also a major force in comms engineering, a strength NetScout said it hoped to maintain.

"Addressing the quality and reliability of voice, video and telepresence services continues to be a top concern," said NetScout president and CEO Anil Singhal.

"To proactively manage these services the organisation needs application specific details as well as IP transmission characteristics for voice and video traffic to understand what impacts user service quality and address performance issues," he added.

"NetScot will gain critical technology and expertise that will help us continue to build on our foundation strategy of Packet-Flow intelligence."

The acquisition is expected to be slightly accretive to NetScout's numbers for fiscal 2012 on a non-GAAP basis.
