Customers continue to drive security consolidation

Security resellers are continuing to get calls from customers to help consolidate products as users look for simplicity.

The trend towards making things simpler was identified last year by those in the security channel but it shows no sign of slowing up, particularly at the enterprise level.

Some customer are struggling to manage in excess of 30 plus security products and the management headaches and the costs have led to a focus by many customers on reducing that number.

Terry Greer-King, UK managing director at Check Point, said that the customers were driving change.

"There has been a fundamental shift around this consolidation and users are turning to resellers and vendors and asking how they can be helped," he said.

He added that enterprise customers were particularly looking for consolidation but it would take a bit longer to get down to the SME level where, "sales might still be based on best of breed products".
