Syncsort embraces two tier model

Data management and protection software provider Syncsort, which launched its first EMEA partner programme earlier in 2011, is embracing the two tier channel model with the appointment of Avnet to distribute its NetApp Syncsort Integrated Backup lines.

The solution JV between NetApp and Syncsort is already sold through Avnet in the US, and it is hoped that bringing the relationship to Europe will enable Syncsort to exploit Avnet's existing access to the NetApp channel, according to senior product manager - data protection Peter Eicher.

"We focus to a good extent on the midmarket, so the solution itself typically requires a services wrap and training, which Avnet can provide," Eicher told MicroScope.

"The solution focuses on mixed storage environemtns and offers what we think is the most effective high-performance data protection in the market, with specific benefits around virtualised environments," he explained.

In the long-term, said Eicher, the firm will try to help resellers expand beyond the NetApp channel.

"In North America we've already been successful competing against EMC; to date we've had an 80% win-rate against them in head-to-head deals," he said.

Avnet will initially cover the UK and Ireland, Germany and the Netherlands, where Syncsort says it has so far seen the most interest from resellers. It has also appointed Altimate (formerly Codework), which for now will cover only Benelux.
