Avnet launches Avaya switch training scheme

Avnet Technology Solutions is to launch a new programme to provide practical hands-on training on Avaya's Ethernet switching lines.

As a former Nortel distributor, Avnet already has extensive expertise on data networking solution and has made a virtue out of bringing together the disparate voice and data solutions into a converged networking offering.

It claimed its Data Seed Unit Programme would build "awareness and confidence" among Avaya dealers old and new, enabling them to better integrate voice, data and video for customers.

"Avnet will deliver the most up-to-date Avaya Ethernet switching appliances to the business partner and provide on-site training and interoperability advice before leaving the equipment with them for up to two weeks," said Avnet's Avaya business manager, Tony McNish.

"This means partners can become fully conversant with the technology and confident of its abilities before recommending it to customers," he added.

The programme will be augmented by accreditation boot camps for Avaya data portfolio specialists, including skills-conversion courses for Cisco engineers.

Praising Avnet's data-centric heritage, Avaya UK sales lead for data, Tony Burrows, said: "Avnet's new programme will enable partners to transfer their skills easily from competing technologies to the Avaya data portfolio.

"As we continue to expand Avaya's data portfolio over the coming months, this programme will allow partners to adopt new products without incurring additional costs in training key engineering resouces, allowing them to maximise their return on investment," he added.
