Sage sets out cloud ambitions to resellers

Sage is planning to make 2012 the year of the cloud and is already talking to resellers about its plans to make its software availble to users via hosted platforms.

Having just launched its flagship SME business intelligence product Sage 200 the vendor is already talking to resellers about what is on the roadmap and has outlined its cloud plans.

The vendor has opted to offer a hybrid model, with a physical product being complemented by hosted components, after feedback from both partners and customers indicated that was the preferred option.

"Components of Sage 200 are already web enabled but we have shared our in-depth timescales to the cloud and are moving at a rapid pace," said Steve Atwell, general manager of Sage UK's lower mid market and channel division.

"We have adopted a hybrid approach that gives the custiomer flexibility because the user wants choice and customisation," he added.

The other strong proponent of the hybrid model is Microsoft, which has argued strongly that customers still want to own a physical product as well as having cloud functionality.
