The data breaches continue to come thick and fast, with Citibank the latest name to be added to an ever-expanding list.
Already this year there have been breaches at RSA, Play.com and Lush, among others.
According to reports the bank has been the victim of a hacking attack that could potentially impact 200,000 customers.
The bank has claimed the breach only effects 1 per cent of its customer base and credit card security codes and dates of birth were not stolen.
The next steps will be for the bank to inform those customers impacted by the breach as well as repeating calls for user caution about sharing personal details.
For security resellers it comes just a day after a Check Point survey showed that three quarters of UK firms have been hit by data loss and keeps the issue in the spotlight.
