Microsoft backs Cloud Industry Forum

Alex Scroxton

Microsoft UK has thrown in its lot with the Cloud Industry Forum (CIF), the industry body that aims to talk up trust, security and transparency in cloud deployments.

Microsoft is one of the larger players in the cloud market, with Gartner predicting it will be one to the leading two vendors in the sector before the mid-point of the decade.

It already claims to have over 10,000 corporate customers using its Windows Azure platform, and has been running its own global 'Cloud Power' campaign to build greater understanding of the concept among CIOs and other IT professionals.

"Microsoft has been following the work of CIF with interest and we fully support its aspirations to champion the adoption of cloud services," said Microsoft director of partner strategy and programmes, Janet Gibbons.

"We have prided ourselves on the work we have done since inception in terms of developing a credible, independent voice for the sector," said CIF chairman Andy Burton. "We are recognised through our work on standards and briefing government at the highest levels as acknowledged experts ... so the time is right for organisations such as Microsoft to become members."
