Security and convergence VAD Wick Hill is dipping its toes in the fast-frowing WAN optimisation and acceleration market following the signing of a new contract with Expand Networks.
Expand UK sales director Mathew Matthews said that the agreement would not only help Expand break out from its traditional markets based around Citrix environments, cloud and virtualisation, but also allow both firms to address Oracle and SAP installations.
"As cloud and virtualisation force applications into the datacentre it puts WAN optimisation to the fore, so we were looking for a partner that knows its way around the datacentre," he explained.
Wick Hill chairman Ian Kilpatrick said there were still gaps in the WAN optimisation market and talked up Expand's strength in distributed environments as well as in the core datacentre as a differentiator against some of its competitors, such as Bluecoat, Riverbed, Silver Peak and the like.
"But this is a big market, it's still growing and by applying leverage to it with the right player we can expand the market. It's not necessarily taking business away from existing players, it's new market," he said.
