DiData buys enterprise cloud outfit OpSource

System and network integrator Dimension Data has bought California-based enterprise cloud specialist OpSource for an undisclosed sum and opened a new centralised Cloud Solutions Business Unit.

150-strong OpSource, which maintains an office in the UK and claims to have over 600 enterprise, service provider and SaaS ISVs on its books, will sit within the newly-created unit, which reports directly to DiData CEO Brett Dawson.

OpSource and DiData parent NTT previously worked together as part of a strategic alliance, and NTT Investment Partners already owned a 5 per cent stake in the firm.

The firm's specialises in high-availability, business-critical cloud computing and hosting environments, which DiData said would accelerate its time-to-market in the fast-growing cloud segment.

In a statement Brett Dawson said that the firm's decision to accelerate its focus on cloud service was aligned to its "long-standing strategy to become a services-led business".

"Over the pastf ew years, Dimension Data has been building cloud-related skills and capabilities in the areas of virtualisation, datacentre and storage, managed services and hosting, and IT outsourcing," said Dawson.

"OpSource brings a rich set of services, a sound cloud architecture and extensive experience in cloud services that will meet immediate client needs, in addition to a cloud infrastructure which supports development and growth," he added.

OpSource founder Treb Ryan said "We believe that as part of Dimension Data, OpSource will be better able to capitalise on the global cloud computing market opportunity."
