SAP still holding door open for cloud hungry VARs

Simon Quicke

Sticking to its road-map SAP has issued the second annual update of its cloud Business ByDesign service and reiterated that the door is open for further resellers to get involved with selling the product and developing additional services.

There have already been around 260 sign-ups to the vendor's ByDesign Studio, which gives developers and VARs the chance to add functionality and then sell it through an app store, but Ian Anstey, head of Business ByDesign in the UK at SAP, said that more would be welcome.

He said that it was constantly trying to meet customer requests for additional functionality in its service but had chosen to focus on key vertical markets, which in this latest update included professional services, and as a result there was a gap that the channel could fill.

"There is a bunch of white space out there we want to address," he added "ByDesign Studio gives the solution partner the chance to create and put online at the app store where they can get paid royalties or license fees."

Anstey said that it had to ensure that standards remained high and as a result it would provide training and assistance to partners that wanted to get involved with the Studio and the door was always open to partners.

SAP has pledged to launch two updates to Business ByDesign a year, one in January and the other around this time of year, as well as providing vertical market solutions on an ongoing basis.
