Cisco software buy to ease service provider sales process

Cisco has handed over $31m (£18.8m) to acquire the AXIOSS service fulfillment software assets and related employees of Finnish comms software firm Comptel's UK subsidiary.

The AXIOSS suite will enable Cisco to augment its service provider management offering by automating the ordering and fulfillment proceeses, and enhance its service provider network management tool Cisco Prime.

The net result, said Cisco, will be to enable service providers to more quickly and efficiently launch new network services such as video, mobility and cloud, to their end user customers.

"We will enable service providers to egnerate greater profits using a single management architecture to drive quick monetisation and optimisation of ther Cisco network investments, " said Jesper Andersen, senior vice president and general manager of Cisco's Network Management Technology Group.

Added Jordi Ferrer, managing director of Cisco UK Service Provider and Media: "We will be investing in a unique set of technology and skills in the UK that will be a valuable addition to Cisco's network management portfolio."

The two firms will continue to collaborate in other areas of operations and business support systems (OSS/BSS), such as cloud mediation and charging.

Comptel CEO Juhani Hintikka said the deal underlined the firm's leadership in the OSS/BSS market, and insisted the sale would not change its fulfilment strategy, "which is to achieve growth and the market-leader position for convergent telecom service providers".

The deal is expected to close by the end of September, subject to various standard closing conditions.
