Security threats continue to cause customer headaches

Security continues to remain the biggest headache for customers as they try to fend off cyber attacks which continue to evolve and cause problems for firms trying to protect sensitive data.

The latest Symantec State of Security Survey revealed that the sector remains a rich seam for resellers with the majority of firms suffering attacks, although the frequency of issues declined compared to last year.

Although things improved slightly, with those losing money as a result of attacks down year-on-year by 8%, the percentage of those firms hit financially remains astronomically high at 92%.

The challenge, and opportunity, for resellers is to help firms combat the latest threats and demands from staff for greater flexibility said Sean Doherty, vice president and CTO of enterprise security at Symantec.

"Mobile computing, social media use and the consumerisation of IT are all providing new challenges as organisations increase their cyber security efforts," he said.

"There's no question that attackers are using more insidious, sophisticated and silent methods to steal data and wreak havoc. Organizations today have more to lose than ever before and need to keep adopting the security innovations and best practices that the industry is delivering to stay protected," he added.
