CMS Peripherals launches acquisition drive with CCI buy

contract deal siri stafford.jpgStorage distie CMS Peripherals has taken the first step to fulfilling its ambition to become a €250m (£220m) business by 2015 with the acquisition of Yorkshire-based CCI Distribution.

CMS claims the deal, financial terms of which remain undisclosed, will make it the largest independent data storage distributor in the UK and Ireland, taking its annual run rate to €145m straight off the bat.

It also adds a north of England base and sales team to its existing offices in London and County Mayo in Ireland.

The firm's founder and managing director, Frank Salmon, told MicroScope that post-integration the business would "look to do further acquisitions".

"From a customer perspective we'll maintain both businesses; CCI will continue to trade under its own brand [and] we'll be offering our resellers a much broader range of vendors," he added.

Salmon added that CMS' strength in both hardware and software would naturally complement CCI's more hardware-focused business, with little vendor overlap on the hardware side.

Salmon said he hoped there would be no need to let CCI staff go even if their roles were duplicated, saying any redundant roles would be "absorbed by new business growth".

Managing director Paul Roughley remains on board and has also been elevated to a seat on the board of CMS Peripherals' main holding company.

"Being part of a larger distribution business immediately and significantly expands the sales opportunities for our combined portfolios. The opportunity that lies ahead is tremendous," said Roughley.
