Siemens Enterprise Communications (SEC) has named distribution manager Tony Smith as its new UK indirect channel sales director, replacing Leon Mangan, who is leaving to take up a new post elsewhere in the industry.
Smith will take up the reins at the start of SEC's new financial year in October, and has been tasked with "defining and implementing" the vendor's Go Forward! partner programme and increasing demand generation activities.
Smith told MicroScope that the vendor had seen an upswing in partner numbers during the year, especially since the launch of several new OpenScape unified comms (UC) products earlier in 2011.
"There has been lots of interest from channels, it's opening up new markets and there are new resellers coming on board, so my job is to build on that and maintain the momentum," Smith told MicroScope today.
The influx has come both from traditional voice channels and less traditional areas, according to Smith, who said that increased interoperability options with Microsoft Office had also tempted Microsoft VARs on board.
"It's a tough climate but there's still a huge market for UC. Resellers have maybe struggled to demonstrate its value and we've done a lot of work on training. I will continue to build on that," added Smith.
"Our aspiration is to further grow our market share in the SME and mid-market segment, and this requires strong, highly active partner relationships," said SEC UK managing director Graham Walker.
"[Tony's] focus and energy will further accelerate the momentum we have built in the channel," he added.
