Wireless LAN vendor Meru Networks has acquired Manchester-based security specialist Identity Networks for an undisclosed sum.

Identity specialises in providing secure guest and device access management technology, which will now form part of Meru's offering for firms that want to allow guests and employees to use their own client devices on the enterprise network.

Identity's solution has already been installed in various parts of Meru's customer base as an integrated third-party security solution, Meru said.

"Enterprises must provide secure, auditable access to hundreds or even thousands of devices daily," said Meru senior vice president of product management, Kamal Anand. "Provisioning, managing and securing access for guest and employee-owned devices can be a tedious and inefficient process.

"The addition of Identity Networks to the Meru family builds upon our already strong security offerings and provides another important component of overall network security," he added.
