The UK is leading the way with cloud services adoption and those channel players that fail to 'cloudify' their offerings in the managed services space face increasing pressure.

The views of Martin Hingley, founder4 of ITCandor, indicate that the shift towards hosted services is here to stay but not everyone will be winners if they fail to make the right investments and change their business approach.

"The disruption of Cloud Computing will be felt in many places - among the indigenous Managed Service and Outsourcing providers and in the slowing productivity of organisations which fail to invest," he wrote on the ITCandor blog.

The warning comes at the same time as Hingley's research showed that consumers and small businesses will be strong investors in cloud computing and telecom service and IT services will be the key categories.

But the headline number is a greater slice of the IT spend taken by cloud, rising from 16% of the UK ICT spend now worth about £33bn, to 20% by 2016 worth £43bn.

The reaction from those in the channel selling cloud was positive with one distributor pointing to the growth figures as evidence that this was a market that resellers should be migrating into in greater numbers.
