Acer looks to exploit HP instability

Simon Quicke

Acer has become the latest PC vendor to look to exploit the recent instability at Hewlett-Packard with the confusion over its strategy handing its rivals a chance to try to prise its resellers into working with a different vendor.

So far both Fujitsu TS and Dell have been vocal about the alternatives for customers worried about what might happen with HP's plans for its Personal Systems Group (PSG) division but now Acer's European head Walter Deppeler has added his firm's name to the alternatives that resellers and customer's should look at.

In an interview in German newspaper Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung Deppeler said that the change of CEO at HP, going from Leo Apotheker to Meg Whitman late last week, could cause some customer concerns and they might want to look at alternatives.

He was quoted as saying that he thought the state of change of HP would benefit rivals including Acer which had sights on gaining more market share across the European PC market.
