Business intelligence (BI) software specialist Jaspersoft has made its move on the mobility space with the latest (4.2) version of its BI Suite, released under open source in what the company claims is an industry first
The release includes a mobile BI iOS software development kit, that will allow developers to embed BI capabilities into native mobile apps and a a full-featured, touch-screen BI environment accessible through a mobile browser for rapid deployment.
Jaspersoft said the trend towards deployment of tablets in the workplace, coupled with the emergence of the bring-your-own (BYO) advocates was putting pressure on IT and enterprise software providers to fast-track mobile device access to key applications.
The always-on nature of mobile devices can dramatically improve internal business decision-making through highly accessible reports and dashboards, it believes.
CEO Brian Gentile said the release would give BI builders more freedom to choose the right environment for their needs.
"We know the workforce wants an easy-to-use BI interface but mobile BI is rarely a one-size-fits-all solution," he said.
"Organisations have different requirements for mobile BI, so we built a toolkit for embedded solutions and we're delivering an elegant browser-based answer for traditional IT-based solutions," Gentile added.
