Alcatel-Lucent is understood on the verge of selling its Genesys contact centre software unit to private equity investors Permira, according to the Financial Times.
The unit sits within Alcatel-Lucent's Enterprise division, a sale of which was discussed earlier this year, and could be worth up to $1.5bn.
Exclusive talks between Alcatel-Lucent and Permira, which holds interests in a number of sectors including frozen food and fashion retail, have reportedly been in progress for a while, claimed sources interviewed by the FT, although other interested parties have been allowed a seat at the table.
Alcatel-Lucent CEO Ben Verwaayen has already made clear his intention to focus on the firm's core talents in a bid to post its first ever annual net profit since the firm's formation six years ago.
