AppDNA falls to growing Citrix empire

Alex Scroxton

App management and migration specialist AppDNA has signed an agreement to be acquired by Citrix for an undisclosed sum, reports our sister site ComputerWeekly.com.

UK-based AppDNA specialises in migrating end-users from physical to virtual desktops and also checks app compatibility for OS and browser upgrades.

Citrix made its move just days after AppDNA rival ChangeBase was itself acquired by Quest Software.

The firm today said the acquisition formed part of its plans to speed up the desktop virtualisation process in the enterprise, reducing both time and cost of deployment.

Citrix said it planned to use AppDNA's AppTitude app portfolio and migration management tool product alongside its own Receiver, CloudGateway and XenDesktop lines to support the migration of Windows, web and SaaS apps into the virtualised world.

Bob Schultz, general manager of enterprise desktops and applications at Citrix, said this was an area that had been causing end-users some difficulty.

"As part of a complete desktop transformation strategy with a proven methodology for deploying virtual desktops across all users, Citrix and AppDNA together help customers more quickly realise the business benefits and operating efficiencies of creating a virtual computing environment," he said.

In a statement, Citrix said that the AppTitude lines would continue to be made available through AppDNA's existing channel at current pricing, with pricing and availability through Citrix still to be worked out.
