Resellers offering managed services are going to have to ensure they can cope with supporting a diverse number of mobile devices for the long-term.

Speaking at the Kaseya managed services roadshow in Edinburgh this morning Rob Bamforth, principal analyst at Quocirca, said that the challenge of mobile device diversification was going to be a feature of the market that managed service providers had to deal with.

"We will see massive diversity. I don't think we will see what happened in the PC market, where one platform dominated about 90% of the market. We will see massive diversity and many organisations are starting to realise they need help with this," he said.

He said that the reasons for the diversity were not going away as the bring you-are is  device movement gained ground.

A straw poll among the reseller audience in Edinburgh showed that there were Blackberry, Windows mobile, Apple and Android phones being used.

Bamforth said no firm could bury its head in the sand and ignore the need to manage the number of devices and this handed an opportunity to managed service providers.

"It does open up an opportunity to managed service organisations taking a broad approach," he added.
