The result of the recent high profile public cloud problems with Microsoft's Office 365 service and the security problems experienced by Sony with its online gaming service are being felt by resellers.

The results of those incidents have been to stoke the fear among customers and according to the latest research from the latest Pearlfinders IT Index, which monitors trends and opinions in the IT world, more stringent SLAs are being demanded before users move to the cloud.

"Executives are now demanding more stringent SLAs from cloud suppliers, so they can be sure the losses they experience from any cloud outages will be lower than the savings gained from moving to a cloud-based service in the first place," the Index stated.

Although Microsoft and Google were seen to have stamped their authority on applications like cloud delivered email there were plenty of oppportunities for bespoke cloud development work.

"The main opportunity for mid-sized systems integrators specialising in cloud surrounds this area," the Index added.

Cloud continues to be the technology most in demand with the Pearlfinders research based on the third quarter where of those IT decision makers it quizzed 36.9% had immediate plans to deploy the technology.
