Corel offers education unrestricted licenses

Corel has given its educational resellers a boost offering an unrestricted academic site license that drops the traditional restrictions based on seats and usage.

The move has the potential to shake-up the academic license model making it both better value and simpler for schools and colleges to work out what they are getting for their investment.

The professional graphics vendor has been looking to grow its channel business and the unrestricted license covers its graphics, multimedia and utility products.

"Graphics and multimedia are vital career skills for today's pupils and students, but many software vendors place unrealistic restrictions on the use of software across schools and campuses and insist on software usage reporting that is difficult and time consuming for IT administrators", said Brett Denly, vice president of EMEA sales and marketing at Corel.

He added that its new approach was "easy to understand, deploy and administer" and provided good value for the customer and would "generate incremental recurring revenue streams" for its resellers.
