Ad hoc IT deployment holding back SME growth

The ad hoc deployment of technology is coming back to haunt customers that now find the challenge of integrating IT systems is the biggest barrier to growth.

With a decent number of customers having deployed technology on a piecemeal basis with little thought for the impact on the wider organisation research from Advanced Business Solutions and Source has revealed the extent of the consequences of that strategy, with a large number of SMEs bemoaning the way ad hoc deployment is now limiting their prospects for using tools like business intelligence.

Even those firms that understand they have problems are often failing to address them because they struggle to find the time or the money to deal with it.

"It is clear from the research that upper mid-sized UK organisations are struggling to grow due to issues with the IT systems, processes and people," said Simon Fowler, managing director of Advanced Business Solutions.

"Organisations are lacking the foundation for growth with lack of integration between IT systems proving the biggest growth barrier," he added.
