Research: Users set to expand virtualisation investments

Simon Quicke

Virtualisation has been a hot technology for the last few years and it continues to provide opportunities for resellers.

Originally focusing on server virtualisation the growth in applications for the desktop has expanded the opportunity and it has grown even more with the rise of specialist vendors delivering management, backup and security tools.

But it is all well and good just sticking your finger in the air and predicting more spending on virtualisation. What helps much more is to provide some hard facts around what customers are planning to do.

Exclusive TechTarget research of customer buying intentions around virtualisation contains some interesting findings for the channel.

Primarily, let's start with the positive with more than half  (55%) those asked revealing that they intend expanding deployments of virtual machines this year on the server front.

It is not just those that have taken the plunge already that are looking to extend their reliance on virtualisation with 10% planning to deploy virtual machines for the first time.

Plus there are plenty of people evaluating the technology, with 30% looking at desktop virtualisation and 14.6% taking a closer look at what they could do with their server estates.
